Anyone knows how to dismount the fork left leg spring ?

Hello

I've bought Wilbers springs to replace the OEM springs with progressive springs.
It's been quite easy to replace the spring in the right leg of the fork, as the fork is built as any other Ducati fork.

But, the left leg is built completely differently : it contains just a spring and no preload tube upon it.

I just can't understand how to dismount it, to replace the spring. I am quite sure I need a specific tool, but I find no information about it in the workshop manual.

Does anyone here know how to proceed ?

Special tool required - and some light machining if the "cartridge" is to be replaced.

Those forks were not designed to be taken down by conventional means.

I am looking for a picture of this special tool and also how to use it : for ex. whether the cap is screwed or just fitted in the inner tube.

I've been discussing with them and I also got this technical study. But, mainly due to the price of these aftermarket cartridge, I preferred to only change the springs, by Wilbers progressive springs. I could just one spring, in the right leg, and removed some oil (20 cm3) in each leg and it has already improved the fork behaviour.

So, I am looking for the solution to dismount the spring in the left leg.

Vince , You need to remove the grub screw on the inside of the fork leg( in the alloy casting) you'll find it's been peened over, and it's a devil of a job to remove it ,because they've used loctite as well, you'll need to drill it out,
Once that's out you need to unscrew the chromed fork leg from the casting, Theres a screw on the end once you've removed it, that holds it all together,
On assembly use a new "O" ring , ducati don't sell them though,

If you want my advice, unless you have a well equipped work shop with some machining facilities, get a professional who's used to this type of work to do it for you ,

Not sure we are talking of the same operation : my concern is just to reach the spring, to replace it.
I got some answers from SBKen and other on a french forum, that make me think that this 4 holes cap can be unscrewed with a tool who would look like this :
