Anyone got any tips for cleaning the spokes on a Classic; any brushes or other kit which you have found to be good?

I use an old toothbrush. If you can get both wheels off the ground using stands it makes it much easier and doesn't take too long.

I have to say, I was mortified to find out, after reading the forum, that the spokes are not stainless steel!

No steel wool! And no acid (coke, vinegar) either. It always leaves residue somewhere and the steel wool leaves micro scratches, which starts rusting right away. Serious, don't. Acid creeps between the spoke nipples and the rim, and slowly turns -the insides of course- of your aluminum rims into cauliflowers, and seizes the nipples to the spokes.

You rather wipe and rub it with ACF-50. It removes existing rust, and protects against new rust, and it doesn't scratch the spokes. Remember, scratches rust quicker than a smooth surface.
