Hi i have this problem with my icon, im about to go for a ride yesterday, i turn the key and everything seems ok, then i push the start button and it wouldn't start just a clicking sound under the seat. Is it the battery, can i just buy a new battery and switch it or do i need to send it to the dealership which is 90 mile away from where i live, called them and the towing wil cost 200 bucks. Or is it the relay?? Need help and opinion here guys..this is my first bike. So im not yet familiar with everything still trying to learn..thank you in advance.

Battery doesn't have enough charge to turn the motor over. Either jump it with jumper cables, recharge the batter with a battery tender, or replace the battery.

Thank you, i already tender it but still it wouldnt start.well i guess i will just replace the battery, any suggestion what is a good brand for the battery? Is it like plug and play, do i need to do anything else for the installation?

I'd give the dealer a call, it could be covered under the warranty. If not I'd still purchase the battery through them. It is plug and play though.
Already talked to them they said its not covered by warranty. ill just buy a new one...thanks a lot man..big help.
Hello

If you haven't bought your battery yet, don't take the cheapiest model. Just weight the different models you're proposed and you'll understand how some batteries can be cheapier than others : less plumb in a battery, lower price but shorter life...
A loose battery terminal will give you the same symptoms. So before you go and buy a battery check to make sure that all the connections to it are tight. If you can, check those to the starter solenoid and the starter too.

I will check it tomorrow, thanks for the info, i hope i dont have to buy a new one.
As others have said, Check the simpler things first before buying a new battery. It may just be a loose connection?

Take a look at the thread I created when I had battery / starting issues when I first collected my bike. It may not be relevant to you? But it could also help you locate the root cause of your problem.

Thanks man...i will look it up..
So to start off I'm a mechanic, airplanes specifically, so I'll understand echanical terminology mentioned. Now I just tried to start my GT1000 up and the moment I turn the key on the solenoids go ballistic, both, and the bike will not start, all the lights flicker in sequence with the solenoids.

My first guess would be the battery if I were to hit the ignition button but I didn't even have a chance. This is my first ducati, as of 4 days ago, and I'm uneducated in their specific workings.

Does my original hypotheses sound correct? Maybe when I locked forks i accidently left it in that dumb ass power mode, some how.

Thanks for any input.

A GT1000 is not a Scrambler and I doubt that there are many if any here who have detailed GT1000 knowledge as the bikes are now 10-12 years old.
My suggestion is that your best bet for anything other than very generic advice would be to join a general Ducati forum that has members who own or ride older bikes.
Shit, sorry I thought i was in the GT forum, My bad. It's an '07 if it helps. I 'll check out the other forum.
