I don't think you appreciate the geography around some of Scotland. The main problem is lack of alternative roads however I could probably get it down to around 30 miles by using a few alternative roads. The weather on the day will probably have some bearing on the route I use. It will NOT be constant speed whatever way I go.
I've spent the last 15 minutes playing around with Google Maps and have found a route that gets me down to about about 3 or 4 miles of motorway getting out of Glasgow and another 2 couple of miles on the M90. I'll settle for that.
Actually there isn't much motorway in Scotland away from the central belt but the main road north, the A9, is dual carriageway all the way to Perth
Aye, I could Hui but entirely in the wrong direction for me. I'm situated about 15 miles north of Dundee on the East. I'm reckoning on heading from Glasgow through Kirkintilloch, then Bonnybridge and on to the Kincardine Bridge. From there across Fife to Dundee, then I have about 12 miles of dual carriageway for the last bit and I can avoid 7 miles of that if I take a 5 mile detour.
When I'm heading up your way I avoid the A9 like the plague. Usual route is over the Cairn O' Mount then the Lecht and take the Grantown - Nairn road. Much more enjoyable
I might end doing just that, actually better. I'm on good terms with a local motorcycle shop that I do electrical work for. He has a van similarly rigged up to Hui's that I can probably borrow.
