Ducati Scrambler First Ride

What/where is going to be your first ride on your new Scrambler? Is it going to be out to your favorite road, or are you going to go out exploring? I know that when I get a new bike, I like to take it out into the hill country of Texas and just get lost for a while. We have some great farm roads out here that you can criss cross all over the place. The only thing that limits you is the tank between your knees... Well, that and the stomach. I usually plan a stop at one of the great restaurants like Bluebonnet Cafe, or The Monument Cafe.

First "real ride" will be on historical Eroica permanent Traks, abt 200 km of which almost 100 unpaved roads. Every year on this track on hills near Siena in Tuscany, vintage bikes run Eroica Edition. as far as I know the Eroica "traemarks" has been exported and now should be some Edition worldwide (California for sure) here the link of official website

and this is one pictures I shoot last year with my (ex)GS

First day over some local paved twisties, then a dirt road over the mountains to the ocean, next day into town for a pre and post breakfast ride with my dear wife.
Assuming the timing is right, then a ride up HWY 1 to Laguna Seca for World Superbike and parking it on Ducati Island.
Then on to Sheridan Wyoming on all the back roads I can find.

Sounds good 64, What did you both think of the new bike ?

If I am correct in assuming that the 1st service is recommended at 500 miles, then this is my plan;

Day one...Dealer to home (green rt south to north) 151 miles
Day two...Loop (red rt) 199 miles
Day three...back to dealer for 1st service (green rt north to south) 151 miles

Then I just may go on a little journey to WV and points south.

625 miles for 1st service.

A service lamp will come after the desired distance travelled, I don't think the light comes on when riding but will light up if your past the mileage next time you turn on the ignition. That's probably why it varies from bike to bike.
I'm sure it used to be that the lamp could not be prevented from coming on, so if you go in early for the service then you would have to return a few days later to have the light putout. I don't think that's the case anymore but it's still not recommended to go in early for the first service because once the oil has been changed then the engine will no longer be able to 'bed in' if the process was not completed. This is due to the new oil being too good at it's job and doesn't allow anymore wear between moving parts.

I had to do this on my Diavel and get it reset shortly after the service.
