FT Cafe Racer Drag Bars

All, I posted similarly in a different section and got no response.

I want to install drag bars similar to what is on the Italia Independent. Does anyone know if these bars from Rizoma will work on the FT without having to shorten cables, buy new brackets/clamps, etc....?

Any help is appreciated,

Not sure about that, he has turned the mirror mounting clamp upside down. I am looking at these bars also but had maybe planned to retain my mirrors. Can't see why that wouldn't work?

look at this picture..this bike has the full throttle bars and turned mirrors upside down and it hits the tank - the drag bar is lower and closer to tank at ends i believe

Just put the mirror clamps the right way up as they are normally and that should be ok. These clamps are removable and flippable and are what keeps the clutch and brake levers on so you just turn them up the other way..
Yes the pic in #17 is of Rizoma bars and clock reposition kit, the mirror clamp has been turned upside down but you can have the mirrors in the normal position without any problems.
I cut 20mm off each end of my rizoma bars as I thought them to wide and I've also fitted quite a few Rizoma bars to my own bikes, friends and also customers bikes without drilling holes preferring to carefully dremel the pins off plus I also change the stock mirrors for ones with indicators built in.

Geoff.

thanks for the info. Can you explain more about these pins? So the drag bar has to be modified before install? Do you have pics?
Received the bars today. I think I'm going to try to install tomorrow.
Installed. its tight trying to get everything on. Throttle is hanging over the bar 1/2 inch.

Will try to post better pictures tomorrow.

Git my bike today finally and I love it.

Wow looks great can u give more info about installing? I ordered my bar. I'm hoping you can still use bar end mirrors or LEDs with this. how did u relocate cables?

After some adjusting, I've reduced the throttle assembly gap to 1/4 inch. The throttle assembly hangs over the end of the bar by that much. I can correct this by using the rizoma gauge kit that moves the speedo to the center but I prefer not to.

Any suggestions?

thanks much,

*Nardo - I showed a top view so hopefully you can see cable routing. I didn't really do anything different. It doesn't feel like anything is pinched but I do think I should re-look at how to best arrange them.

**Also, I forgot to mention - the FT bar ends will not fit in the rizoma bar.

Well done on being the first to try and post this. I think you are right, Rizoma promote this bar across many bike brands and models and not the Scrambler specifically. I believe their photo shows a Monster. The offset of the Scrambler speedo and proximity to the bars would seem to indicate that the guage kit is necessary for getting more space on the bar to move the throttle in and fit bar ends as well.
Yeah, I'm tempted to just shift the whole bar to the right a quarter inch!

Any suggestions?

Serious question, what if I just trimmed the throttle and grip?
I guess that could work if you still have enough grip to wring!!
You know guys I've never fitted Rizoma bars without fitting Rizoma grips at the same time and I have fitted quite a few, in the morning I'll measure a standard Ducati grip against a rizoma grip.
On my own scrambler I now have the Rizoma riser kit along with their bars and centre mounted clock, I like the clock in the centre but wish it was on top of the riser but the ignition switch wouldn't be accessible.

Geoff.
Thanks Geoff. I'm guessing the grips are the same size but I look forward to your measurements.

I'm personally not keen on the riser kit because the original goal was low bars.

Thanks for all your help,

Dave

Alright. Finagled the kit a bit more and got it all on there with nothing hanging over. Cables are a bit messy though, will need to deal with that.

If anyone else takes this task on, let me know.

Looks sick. I'm waiting for my bars to ship. i got the rise gauge kit as well so I can post the differences.

What are you doing for mirrors? do the stock mirrors still fit upside or regular ? if not could you use bar end mirrors?

Thanks for helping us out with this. Ill see what I can do about the cables with my install.

I'm going to get a single CRG lane splitter for the left side for now. Curios to hear about the speedo riser kit. Please post when you get it.
Looks good Dave, thanks for breaking the ground on this option.

Beat me to it! I just put mine on today- do you notice that the clutch seems any harder to pull? The cable feels like its under a lot of pressure becuase of the new positioning and I'm wondering if thats going to lead to any issues.
Jonktay, can you post a picture?

I'd say my clutch "feels" a tad but different but I wouldn't say harder.

That said, I am considering bringing the bike in to have someone who knows what they're doing adjust everything including the cables just right. I am convinced these are the right bars.
