I think the headlight is rubbish, anybody else?

Has anyone done anything to improve it?

It lights up on mine. Could do with a less creamy bulb and wish the LED's could actually be used as daylights option. Better than my xt500 though.
can you use motorbikes in the dark ?:)

Some yes, this one, not so much.

I see a HID conversion on ebay, I may need to be the guinea pig

Funny I was just reading all about this earlier today without seeing it on here,,, I've had a HID kit on a car before and it was quite cumbersome to fit the ballasts event with all the engine bay space. I also had to drill the cap of the rear of the light to fit the cables - so I was looking at some Philips Xrreme Vision 130 instead - trying to get a better light plus something more white light xenon.

The HID was too blue (even though rated at 5500k) and I used to get a lot of flashes from not so happy motorists. Also, on my last Harley I had their LED headlight as an upgrade and it was rubbish! Looked way cool but had a very narrow spread, way worse than a stock light! I had a look at LED H4 bulbs today but all reviews say they're crap too.

These are the Philips

Watching this page with interest as my other ride is the Harley and like Feli says the headlight is appalling, also spent out on thier LED light (the Daymaker) must have been a December day in Sweden, an illegal 90/100 bulb costing £10 has improved things slightly. I work nights and try to get out to a few bike evenings during the summer so will be riding in the dark a majority of the time, a decent light which gives good vision and can also be seen by others on the road is a must for me.
dascrow,

Yes, that's the one, I'll send the seller a message asking how it fits, specifically where the ballast fits and is it plug and play or do wires have to be cut and joined. I suspect it's a box of parts and you're on your own.

Feli and Skippy,

Interesting to hear the Harley LED is rubbish too, I'm on a Triumph Thunderbird forum and a couple of people have paid $400 to fit them and believe they're a huge improvement on the standard Thunderbird headlight which in my opinion is marginally better than he scrambler headlight.

In 2015 it is reasonable to expect better.

Last year I was using a little CBF500 as a work bike and the light performed well, this was a budget commuter retailing at under 4k. I think the LED lights may work better on HD's with the 7" shell but hopeless on the Dyna's 5" unit, some bicycle lights seem to give off a much brighter light.
I've just ordered the Philips Xtreme Vision 130+ and the ETA is later this week. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Hello, Bulb is a straight swap for the original. It is not necessary to cut into any wires. Plugs direct into existing headlight plug on bike. Then one wire to earth and one to battery live. Kit supplied with extension leads and hardware, cable ties for mounting ballast under tank etc out of sight. Full instructions are supplied for Naked bike like the scrambler. Regards

I'm actually quite happy with the headlight.

Sounds painful!
I just tried to fit my new H4 bulbs and to be honest didn't go very far :-( I removed the aluminium ring in the front of the headlight but the light didn't come off as in my Harley's ... So I looked and looked but couldn't figure out how to actually change the headlight bulb - there is no access through the rear as the frame is right there. Any ideas? I don't have my manual yet
Feli, It's a little to complicated to explain, but if you like I can take some pics of the manual 3 pages and email them to you , let me know,

ps they fit from the rear of the light
That's awesome, I will have another go now that I know what to do - thanks!
