I recently installed the belly pan on the bike, but I am looking at better protection

That's really awesome.
I've taken my EU on some old wooded paths myself.
I'm sure it kept up with that GS just fine.

We did some steep inclines with a lot of gravel and the bike was fine. But as soon as I hit the snow there was nothing I could do to keep it going. Probably I could have going further with big knobs, but not with stock tires.
