Seeing as how our scramblers are like an Italian pizza with a choice of toppings from a hot pepperoni (full throttle on my menu ) to a icon ( margherita ) maybe mine a classic is a ( a la fungi )and the urban enduro (hot & spicy) and of course being a pizza you can mix any number of ingredients , how does an insurance company treat this ,all the above ingredients are made by Ducati so maybe they just treat like cars with extras but then we change the exhaust ( they always want you to tell them that one ) maybe I fit the full throttle one do I tell them, suspension I am on with right now (Maxton ) do I tell them?
These bikes were made to change Any thoughts please

Read your policy. If you do not declare mods you void your policy. They will do anything to get out of paying out. I declared all my mods and did not raise premium but am covered.

Then again all those with race termi cans are riding uninsured in uk as no insurance will insure a race use only can for on road use nevermind what anyone says. Up to you if you want to chance it

That's not correct.

My insurance and several others will insure you with the Termi, this was something which concerned me a great deal and I investigated thoroughly. The catch is they will only replace it with the standard one if it is damaged.

I went through Ducati Insurance which actually came out as the cheapest even with the pipe, tailtidy and changed bars declared. They, and most of the others, had a section on their quotation system to give details of any modifications.

But I do agree insurance companies will try virtually anything to get out of paying ........:angryfire:

AJS it is up to you. They want to know what you add or change regardless how big or small. Most people dont declare all mods but i see no point in risking it myself.
You could always do a dummy quote on Ducati insurance website and look at what mods they list as needing to be declared as most insurance companies have similar list. Then you can decide for yourself what you want to do.

Ok tell them it is not a road legal can and see what they say. Soon as they found out not street legal in UK the answer was no!
Of course why would you be upfront and tell them it is not stamped for road use. It was a question i asked Ducati Ins before I purchased a new can. At first they agreed to insure the race termi but once I stated it was not road legal the answer was no. They are clueless that the race termi is not legal in UK.
Give em a call but just ask the question and dont give your name :)
If you do find someone who will insure it with race termi while they are aware it is meant for race use only then please share the name of insurer

Hope they dont stitch you up if you are unfortunate enough to be in a claim. Online quote does not show anything in regards to if the termi is road or race use specfically from what i recall. Notes mean nothing either unless you have something in writing showing they are fully aware the race termi is for race use only. A recording on the follow up call would be even better of course

I appreciate your concern and totally agree with your caution.

But in this case I am happy with my decision making process and believe I have totally complied with the companies questions and declared everything accurately.

Naturally the situation can only be fully tested if a claim were to be made .... Hopefully this won't be needed :happy7:

Looking at my ins docs it does say that they will only replace aftermarket exhaust to the cost of the stock one. It also says any exhaust must have a BSI kite mark or E mark to be used legally on the road. I have no clue if the race termi has one of these marks but at the end of the day the insurance should ask if it has before agreeing to insure.

It won't be long before the anti everything brigade will rule our lives!
Take a long look at your registration documents, look at your exhaust db's look at suspension details what the blubberment are after is total control a few years ago I went on a countrywide MAG demo against this very thing! We all but shut down a lot of Mways doing 30 mph the police escorted us did not intervene in anyway and dealt with a few "Herbert's" trying to push past.
What we are complying with today will become law .
Why have bike road taxes not come down? We barely make an imprint on the tarmac but my daughter only pays £25 pa for her diesel car.
If they get there way even if you change your grips you will not be insured . If you change your tyres from what the factory fit, your not insured. Don't believe me go check it out ! I'm not worry mongering this battle goes on, coming from a custom background that whole industry will collapse, even Halfrauds aren't doing as much diy stuff.
The Harley I based my last build on reg doc said it was a 1200cc Harley sportster nothing about exhausts tyres etc so for the year of registration I could do anything I liked within the laws in cons &use . Had to have indicators, mirrors basically but then I could use micro versions!
I'm not saying flout the insurance company just be aware of the consequences. Large vehicle manufacturers would love this aren't we paying enough to them already? Fudge 40 quid for a T-shirt Ducati tax Harley Tax Ford tax you name it.
I could go on but this is not the place so this is just on over view
Imagine USA doing this with their background for custom everything!!!!!
