Time will tell.
Remember for the last five years not many people chose Japanese bikes and European bike sales went through the roof.
If they are just going to churn out the same old boring stuff using old technology then of course they will/should be reliable.
On the other hand If you push the boundaries a wee bit like Ducati, BMW and KTM do then a certain amount of risk will be present.
Yamaha for example had to do something about falling sales and came out with the MT07-09, as for the rest, well.

I can't buy a Ducati from Yamaha etc. so that's me stuffed.

The Scrambler engine is not a new engine for Ducati, so I don't think that they will have any major issues with it. It, being an introductory bike for a lot for a lot of people to the Ducati brand, I can imagine that they wouldn't put out an engine that will be prone to a lot of failures and high upkeep. They have been putting an 803cc engine in the HyperMotard, and the SuperSport since the around 2009. In 2011, they put it in the Monster line.

They could do a lot of damage to the Ducati and Scrambler brands if they put out a crummy engine package. I think the bikes will be pretty sound.
Well put.
I don't think we'll see many roadside breakdowns from any manufacture nowadays bar the odd immobiliser maybe.
Most problems get taken care of at service visits and we only know about them because information is more freely available.
Back in the day a lot of wee problems were sorted behind the scenes.

I think that if what a 'consumer survey' comes up with is enough to sway your decision then I reckon the Scrambler is not for you.

I don't mean to aim this towards Dave, I mean anybody.

Go back a few years and learning to keep a bike on the road yourself was part of the package. We've moved away from being a biker to being a 'kin consumer. I've even had customers complain when the chain went out of adjustment, does that class as a faulty product. I think it does with some 'consumers'.

I had to smile at Hui's comment, chain went out of adjustment,:)

I was at my mates Honda Dealership when this guy came in, they only said a couple of words, and Roger went round the back, It appears this guy comes in every year to have his chain adjusted foc, he bought the bike 6 years ago, never gets it serviced , Just the chain, Amazing:rolleyes:

I've had loads of bikes in 58 years, and can only remember one breakdown where I couldn't get home, that was with my Vincent, the mag pinion sheared,
Most bikes are bullet proof today, we have a lot to be thankful for,
Aye, your man at the Honda dealership is probably telling everyone how his bike is never out the workshop 'let's me down every year', and filling in customer surveys thinking he's helping others make a choice.
