Pain In The Arse....

Test rode the Icon last week. The bike was awesome except for the seat. Pokes you in the tailbone. Are all the seats the same except for the cover, or do they have different seat pitches?

Took it off-road for a short 100yrds or so through some desert wash. Handled very well, but I didn't know how to turn the ABS off, so stopping was tough.

Thanks for all replies. I'm sure there will be plenty of aftermarket stuff for this bike within the next year. Seat will be one of the first fixes.
I have both the Icon seat and the Full Throttle seat, :)

The icon seat is great when I wear my leather Trousers / pants, but I tend to slide about on it , and end up at the front when I'm wearing my textile trousers,

The full throttle seat is more comfortable, I don't slide about at all ,no matter what I'm wearing, I think It's all down to the suede insert,
I have the FT and my seat is good! Before i bought my bike i did a testdrive on the Icon and thought the same thing the seat is not very comfortable! I guess you have to buy the FT now it s the best looking one anyway [happy][happy][happy]

I mentioned the Scrambler to Lendon Smith at Seat Concepts. He is interested. Sarah you could probably get him to make a custom seat for you with a better cover AND use whatever color trim you wanted for the stitching. I would prefer a gel top section on it if that could be done.

Got word from Seat Concepts yesterday-- they will be providing a kit for stock height and a kit to add 1 inch. They say a Low seat may not be possible due to the shape of the pan, as littleowl mentioned above. I've used these kits on a couple of bikes and have been well pleased, excellent bang for the buck in my opinion. Help is on the way!

Thank you, Sarah. How does the "kit" work? Is something we apply ourselves?
Yes, that's what I've done; the foam and cover fit perfectly and a simple staple gun works fine with a firm hand and patience. But for an extra $20 (I think that's right) send in your pan and they'll install it for you. I've also read of local upholstery shops doing the install for just a few dollars.

Sarah
Thanks again, Sarah. Did you find their foam to be firmer than OEM? I'd also like to raise the rider's section of my seat to eliminate the ridge I found so uncomfortable on my friend's Icon. Even after he had his seat re-worked by Seargent in Jacksonville, the cost was $300 ( they redid his foam and replaced the cover ) the ridge was still noticeable. They said that until they created their own pan, the ridge was impossible to completely get rid of. The owner of the company told me he had no plans to do that for "years". I'd rather not wait that long. Of course it would also be nice to have my Classic first!
C,

Both my bikes were dual sports with 2X4's for seats, so I found the SC foam to be softer, but more firmly supportive, if that makes any sense at all. Check out the website, and this giant thread on advrider:

I don't have a Scrambler yet either, but I hope to.

Sarah
I had my seat lowered, a gel pad inserted and a layer of soft foam put over the top of the whole seat, I don't notice the ridge

I plan to have the yellow panels on the FT seat replaced with black material by a local upholstery shop. Hopefully I can have them snag some in progress pics for those who want to try themselves.

That looks good! High time you got here. You plan to also make a plain version? It don't have to look all bitchin for me. Now for folks who don't know --- Bundy is the Seat Concepts guy I've been talking about.

Sarah
That Looks about right, Bundy. Can you work your magic on my soon-to-arrive Classic and save the cover? I would like to raise the rider position an inch, if possible. Thanks in advance!

Well,

These will be a completely new molded foam, in a kit form with a new seat cover.
The old seat cover will not fit the new wider taller seat foam.
haven't decided on the final seat cover design yet. This one is a take on some seats we built for some of the Ducati GT`s and is a take on a 70`s ere Lamborgini seat ! :)

Bundy
I like way that seat looks, Bundy! Any idea on price yet, or do you need to get a bit further down the road? Is it something you'd offer in brown as well?
Thanks for the info, Bundy! Kind of knew the original cover wouldn't work with different foam, I would like to keep the Classic's brown, quilted stitch pattern. Perhaps you could do it in real leather? I have $ and am not afraid to use it!
OH yes, Brown will be in the mix for sure.
Our seat kits start at $159.99. The design above probably $189.99 . If we go with the quilted top panels, it probably will be close to that, maybe a we bit more.
Allot of labor in those.
I will get the pricing squared away as we get closer to production.
Lets here some ideas on seat cover designs!!

I look forward to working with you. Let me know when you're ready to go. I'm expecting the bike within the next few weeks and a seat fix is first on the list.
Hey, Bundy!

Take a look at the "New Solo Seat" thread on this forum...

Is that something you may consider?

Thanks,
Cliff
