Painting or powder coat or vinyl wrap?

9769 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Hui
I want to change the colour of my panels to black, but which of the above three will give me the best and toughest finish? I went to a powder coating manufacturer today, and saw the powder coat finishes, which all looked a bit 'orange-peeley' as opposed to paint. I don't know anything about vinyl wrapping, but imagine it would be easy to scratch?

Any advice please?

Vinyl can be durable depending on the thickness. It is also easy to replace. and probably the cheapest. The paint method would look the best but depending on the clear coat amount used probably be the most expensive. Powder coat is going to be very durable but will not give you the looking finish. So either way is a compromise.
It's a strange thing I've noticed over the years, if you have a matt finish your knees will make the area shiny, if you have a shiny finish then it goes matt.
A textured finish might be best.
Plasti-Dip is a cheap, quick, easily reversible, and surprisingly durable way to do this. I'm planning to try it if my scrambler arrives before I expire.

I'm not sure whether you want shiny or matte Gill ?

But how do you fancy Carbon Vinyl Wrap, I did a few bits on my GS, but others have done full panels and it can look pretty good,
Powder coating shouldn't have an orange peel effect, A guy near me does powder coat and he's very good at it, let me know if you want his details,
I've just found his details Gill

Carbon comes in shiny or satin and probably matt. Could be a good choice, especially on the red.
