First can anyone confirm if there is a low oil level or low oil pressure warning light?

I read the manual on checking the oil level and it seems pretty difficult to do on your own. Bike upright then look through the glass - it is difficult to see the level while holding the bike. How do people do this?

Are owners seeing any appreciable oil usage? I have 4,000 miles and have not been able to check the level yet.

Many thanks, Duncan

Duncan,

The bike needs to be on level ground, and always in gear so it won't roll. I stand an arm's length from the bike on the right side, grab the throttle grip and slowly pull the bike upright watching the oil window as I do so. Not so scary once you've done it a few times.

Thanks all. I did check it and the level is half way up the glass which I think is correct. One thing though, the sight glass has a brown discoloration which seems to be on the inside - like limescale. It doesn't wipe off. Anyone else noticed this on theirs?

The brownish gunk on the inside of the glass is an emulsion of water and oil. It happens around here in the winter, and is a result of short trips that don't get the oil hot enough to evaporate it. There is no ill effects on the motor that I've heard of. You need to ride more . . .

My commute is 11 miles in about 50 minutes. I'm surprised that the oil doesn't get hot enough. Many thanks, Duncan
Hello, I know this is a bit of an old thread, but trying to find answers to my own low oil issue. I bought my 2015 Icon last spring, and found that my oil drops pretty drastically, with no leaks , and no soot around the mufflers to suggest its being burned off. I lose about a liter per 1500 km (or say, a quart every 1000 miles or so). This bike has gone through 2 sets of clutch plates (Mine need changing out now at 24,000, and after checking with the original owner, learned that he changed them out at 15000 km), and I'm guessing it's related to the oil consumption problem. Low oil must be pretty hard on them. Did your oil loss every subside? Did you ever pinpoint the cause, or find a fix for it?
