The latest version of Melcodiag V. 2.0.1.5 will reset the service lights on some of the 800 Scramblers
  • Scrambler 800 with m3c ecu
  • scrambler desert sled 800
  • monster M821 18 with easyU1 ecu
  • hyperstrada 821 with 7sm ecu
  • Hypermotard 939
  • street fighter v4
  • PANIGALE V4 2018
  • Diavel 2018 ( melcodiag v2.0.1.3)
  • Monster 1200S 2015
  • Supersport 939
  • Hypermotard SP 2013 (melcodiag v2.0.1.3)

You will need a Ducati diagnostic to 16-pin OBD connector and an ELM 327 device running V1.5 to connect to your laptop.

How does one find out what ECU their bike has?

Has anyone done a write-up on this yet? I have the proper cables and the newest version of MelcoDiag, but I'm stuck. Windows recognizes the ELM device and assigns a port number, I put the port number in MelcoDiag and hit connect, and it appears to do so, but it never shows me the bike/vin/ecu information.

What version is your ELM device. It should be V1.5. Some Chinese copies are clones and don't work. When you hit connect in MelcoDiag the lights on the ELM327 should flash a sequence and a blue bar travelling from left to right should display in MelcoDiag next to the connect button. When it reaches the end it should show "ECU connected" and after a few seconds the ECU, VIN and bike info should appear.

Mine is 1.5. I'll reboot my laptop and give it another shot this afternoon and see where I end up. I only had one red light on at the end at all times. Another led or two would flicker when I was attempting to connect, but I never got the full sequence.

Edit: Still no luck. It looks like MelcoDiag detects the ELM327 device and shows 1.5, unless I'm mistaken. But the bike info never fills in. This is what I have on screen after trying to connect:

Side note: If I select "Any bike" on ecu, it brings up a prompt when connecting asking me to click Yes if my bike is 2011 or No if it's 2012, and freezes up afterwards no matter what I choose.

It should work for your bike if you select M3C. It's evening here now but I'll try to remember to check out mine tomorrow.

If you have a chance, will you check out what driver version you have for your ELM device? Or point me to the one you used? I specifically downloaded the one from the ELM327 website and am wondering if that might be my issue

And this is screenshot of MelcoDiag connected to the bike :

These are the cables I'm using. The ELM is a USB one.

Same. I got mine off ebay, though, so maybe it's a Chinese clone like you mentioned. I'm going to order another one from a more reputable source and see if I get different results. My driver is the same version. I'll report back when I try the replacement. Thanks for your help, Derek!

I hope you are successful, at least the ELMs aren't expensive. I notice that your version of MelcoDiag is a newer version than mine. There must have been another update in the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Yep, it was the cheap ELM327 device I got from ebay that was the culprit. I got a replacement in from Amazon today and it loaded right up and displayed the information from my bike. I'm waiting for a reply for my license currently. I'll make sure to report back later with my reset results, as well!

And for anyone who comes looking at this thread later, here's a link to the one I got that worked:

Thanks for this. My experience mirrors yours exactly. The device I got from ebay would connect, but not pull back any bike info.

I ordered the one from Amazon. It should be here tomorrow.
