Right footrest hurting ankle with custom exhaust

Hello,

Since I had my exhaust changed, my ankle hits the lower fixing point of the right passenger footrest plate.

Very annoying and potentially dangerous. Would anyone have a solution ?

Thank you.

Wear boots? Realistically you're not supposed to be riding on the balls as much on this bike but as a sport bike rider I get the habit. Ice rubbed the paint off my stock exhaust that way.

You could maybe have some sort of heel plate fabbed up.
I ride in a city with plenty of cobbled road, with sneakers to get to work… Adding a plate sounds good but I was wondering if there was something already on the market. Or some 3d print plan.
As mentioned, you should be wearing boots. Leave the sneakers at work or carry them to and fro work. Many riders have been crippled when a car knocked them over and their ankles were ruined since they were not wearing boots.

This problem I have when commuting in 30 km/h areas and I won't dress like Robocop for riding slower than on my bicycle ! Besides this problem might ruin leather boots too
Is that an aftermarket footrest plate, or do I just not know the scrambler variations well? It is completely different than mine, but maybe one like mine would suit you better (if possible)

To be honest, better a damaged pair of boots, than a wrecked ankle. Ankles are very difficult to repair. My commute is 15 km one way in built up areas. It's all the gear or no riding. Simple. After a no fault accident in 2019 that cost me my Hypermotard, a collar bone, a cracked breast bone and two ribs, it confirmed that irrespective of speed good gear limits the damage. Consider some short boots like the Alpinestars SP-1 or similar. Don't make you look like RoboCop, very comfortable even for walking some distance. Dainese, TCX and Daytona all have similar offerings. I wear my Daytonas and keep another pair of shoes in the office. Simple.

It’s genuine. One like yours would fit me better I guess, yes, but the mounting points seem very different.

Thank you but I’d still like to have the choice. I mean I am listening to your advice, but nevertheless I am still curious about ways of solving the problem in a way that would allow me to wear any kind of shoes.

I get your curiosity about solving the problem. Being a bit OCD myself, what isn't right isn't right, and would bother me until I managed to sort it out.

Good luck finding a working solution.

Have you thought about tapering the front half of the mount since it's not necessary?

Do you mean by grinding it ? Seems a bit hazardous.
How often do you ride with a passenger? Would it be easier to just remove the passenger footpegs entirely?
Also I could see shoving a rubber grommet or hose plug cap into the hole that stuck out slightly farther than the metal frame. It would still contact your ankle, but it would be a rubber part rather than a hard metal edge.

I take my wife to the restaurant every once in a while ! Rubber grommet, hose plug cap, mushroom shaped, would be great indeed but they would need to fit in exactly. Soon I will phone an old friend of mine who works for a POS displays manufacture and has a 3d printer, and see if he's willing to help.

His is a sled, which extended the frame using frame plates down past the swingarm pivot so its not mounted to the back of the engine (reinforced since its an off road bike), so likely no go on swapping.

We shall see what its like when I get my exhaust finally. I have a habit of reverting to a sportbike foot position often too so we shall see if it bothers me (although I use tall boots). If so I will probably taper that lower mount towards the front since its not actually doing anything, they obviously just cut the tube to make the mount and welded on the spars. On top of that maybe have someone fab up a heel plate.
