There seems to be nothing but praise on here and other groups for the stock pirelli STR tyres and I have found them good on road and ok on gravel and stone but this weekend I tried them on mud and for me they were just dreadful. Is it just me?

No... you nailed it. I think they are good general purpose tires... for most riders. I haven’t ever gotten more than 5000 miles on a set (4th set on two bikes). And they are not cheap. Other than those issues I like them.

I have Michelin Anakee Wild.
Big knobies compares to the Oem STR.

But the problem are not only knobies. The problem is that the tyres are to fat and they use to float over the mud without traction.

Wheel size are good for sand but terrible in the mud.

Thanks for your replies. So I guess what I am going to do is get a strip vulcanised round the spoke nipples and then fit a pair of Motoz Tractionator tyres.
