Albie, these things are notoriously difficult to fit. My advice is to give up immediately. Then, carefully, pack it all back into its box very neatly and send it to me.

I have heard they are just too noisy as well and make the bike sounds like a really loud angry butterfly. I'd better hold on to it for you both.
