No reason why it wouldn't work, but it's only powered when the ignition is on. Also, on a thread I saw on another forum a while back, a bike thief said he would rip the seat off and look for a tracker/alarm, or associated wiring :-(
Using USB connected to phone as bike tracker
Any thought of connecting a old smart phone permanently to the USB under the seat and using it as a tracking device should the worst happen.

Having thrown my dead phone in there once for an emergency recharge, I can tell you it gets damn hot down there. It didn't melt or anything, but from now on I just run the cable out and into my pocket.
