Whimpy Sounding Horn?

Are you considering replacing the stock horn with something louder, say like a FIAMM* High Tone Freeway Blaster Horn? I have a Freeway Blaster horn I took off my now sold Ducati Multistrada. The stock Multi horn was weak and wimpy sounding and not very loud. Comparatively, the FIAMM was much louder on the Multi.

However, I tested the Freeway Blaster against the stock Scrambler horn, and the Scrambler horn is actually more piercing and slightly louder than the FIAMM Freeway Blaster. Incidentally, they are both about the same size. I know there are other horn options, but I do not want something that does not fit in the stock location.

*OEM supplier to top autos like Porsche, Audi, Jaguar, VW and more.

I can't even remember the last time I used a horn on a vehicle. Either everything is ok and you don't need it, or you're too busy trying not to hit somebody doing something stupid, and have other things on your mind.

It doesn't help that out here tooting a horn pretty much says "I want to fight you"

Only time I have ever used the horn in 13 years of riding has been in error.

A couple of blips of throttle with a decent exhaust note is a more polite way of letting others know you're there.
Horns are for MOTs

Isn't that the truth. On that note am still undecided on which exhaust I will be going for though the Akraprovic shotgun is top of my list for now

barfridge, you are right on about not relying on the horn. However, after I installed it, I was sitting in the left lane of a two way freeway entrance waiting for the light to change. A driver in an SUV on my right was looking at her phone and started to drift left slowly way into my lane. I hit the horn and the startled look on her face was priceless. :disgust:

The stock horn is terrible. I wanted to go with the Stebel, which is very loud, but requires an additioanl wring harness/relay. I didnt want to have to deal with the extra wiring so I bought this PIAA which is considerably louder than stock. The install was pretty easy. Had to take of the one panel (3 screws) and dremel a little bit near the bottom. However, the electrical connection is plug and play. The horns is so much louder. Here are some pics.

I agree the horn is rubbish but I really can't remember when I've used it in anger. The only time I've ever beeped a horn on any bike is when it's sat in the garage. And only then for a laugh.

Sound Bomb from Twisted Throttle is a nice addition. A horn is a must have safety equipment when riding in the Philippines. A loud pipe is also a must.

I put a Stebel Nautilus on mine. We have plenty inattentive drivers here and 139dbl get their attention really fast.

I have one on my 80 Series Landcruiser and they are loud. I perfer my Termignoni to alert others of my presence. "touch wood"

There's a ready made bracket on the other side of the bike, in a similar location, it was used to carry the charcoal canister for the California models, I think it's 8mm thread, An ideal spot to carry your new horn , and it doesn't spoil the look of the right hand side of the bike, It's also a little cooler on the left side,

Got my Dinali Soundbomb. Installation had to be on the left side. Had to make a little notch for the mount bolt to get through. This is the same horn I installed in my Diavel.

I put a Termignoni low mount on. That way there is no need for a horn. .. they hear you before you need to beep. . However i did beep at a work mate leaving work the other day and the next 2 days she went on and on about my little horn...
