Wondering what this is

Showing my ignorance of all things technical as I have no idea what this is

, when I was cleaning my bike the other day I noticed it. There is an open hole here which is threaded, should it have something in it? (The drip is from ACF-50 not an oil leak!)

Looking at Google though, the 821 and 1200 motors both have the same thing. Some kind of breather maybe?

Does yours have it and is it open?
