Hi,

Thank you for that incredible good job !
I've bought yesterday the red Icon and wanted to paint it in shinny black....now, I've seen the white version and I think it will be my choice !!
Thanks to you, I saved a lot of time !!
Thanks from France

Greetings, newcomer here. Had an '03 Monster 800 in black many years ago. Miss it but wanted something more standard so this hits the mark head on.
Any chance of drawing up a Classic with black tank and the 'Low' black seat?
Thanks,
Bill

Reviving this thread...I think the front fender needs to be longer front and rear for practical reasons. If you ride in rain, or on forest service roads, you would need to keep water off of your face shield and keep sand, stones and mud off of the motor and electrical components. A high fender like those on MXers would do if it would not interfere with engine cooling. A longer stock fender should be just fine. On the rear a fender extending out to just cover the rear wheel would do. The extension from the swingarm that holds the license plate would pack with mud and not give any protection. And it is completely out of character with the Scrambler style. A quick disconnect poly resin skid plate would protect the lower end and not increase noise levels as alloy skid plates do. If you want LED turn signals look at Sicass Racing's front turn signals (built into the plastic hand guards that go on their Zeta bark busters) and their new unbreakable rear turn signals. I have both on my KTM 300 XC and two crashes (one over the handlebars) have failed to tear them off or even scuff them up.

I think the stock colors are a little too hipster to my taste. I prefer classic color schemes so I created my own versions as a guide to customize my scrambler in the future. I think with these color schemes, it looks as equally classic as the Triumph Bonneville.

What do you think?

1st version, "the Desert Storm". Inspired by Royal Enfield's Desert Storm. I modified the Icon and put a classic seat. I re-shaped the foam under the seat and made it flat like the Bonneville. The side panel with logo was blackened out. I put the high mud guard, front grill, blackened the handle bar and tail. The color is matte brown.

2. "Into the Unknown". Inspired by David Beckham's T100 in Brazil, I removed the front mudguard, painted the tank matte black. The side panel was blackened. The seat's leather was changed to more reddish tone. I also installed classic saddle bags. Also installed a skid plate.

3. The same as above but with a brown tank.

4. "Black Out". This version, I modified the icon and installed the Full Throttle's handle bar and tail section. I blacked out the silver details on the side frame, its tank, front mudguard, and exhaust.

5. "Black Magic". I like the classic version Ducati offer but I don't like the yellow tank much so I changed it into a glossy black. See how it turns out!

It would be great if anyone would like to share pics of your own versions here too.

Ducati red has been standard for years. What is hipster about that? Is KTM's orange/black/white hipster? In the '70's Ducati had yellow scramblers, and I raced the 250 off road. I didn't see anything hipster about that, especially since my first race on my 250 was in 11 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures. "Hipster" is an invention, mind you, made up from nothing at all by Madison Avenue types to sell product. The scrambler is not a product as Mad Ave types would have it but it is as Cycle World said so succinctly, in 20 years it will still be passionately valued.
